Cancellation Watch: Sweet Tooth Enters the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, The Flash Goes Out on a Low Note, and More

Cancellation Watch: Ratings results and status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Nielsen Streaming Rankings

Netflix’s fantasy drama Sweet Tooth entered the Nielsen Top 10 for originals for the week of April 24th to 30th. That was the premiere of its second season and it pulled in an estimated 924 million minutes of viewing. That show has already been renewed for a third and final season. Disney+’s The Mandalorian slipped to Number 7 with 498 million minutes viewed the week after it wrapped up its third season. A fourth season of that show is currently in the works. The high-dollar spy fi series Citadel had its premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video that week but did not place in the Top 10, though it has apparently done well with the global audience. A second season of that show had been ordered in advance. Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

The CW’s The Flash had its series finale last week, which pretty much wraps up the Arrow-verse as well, but not many people tuned in for the show’s sign-off. It ticked down from the prior week, only posting a 0.09 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 455K total viewers. That puts the finale near a series low level.

On Wednesday, Superman & Lois–which is an Arrow-verse tangential show–had a 0.08 in the demo after a week off with 599K total viewers. Leading out from that, Gotham Knights slipped to a 0.05 rating with 330K total viewers. Both of those shows are still waiting for word on their fates (more on that at this link.)

On Sunday, Fear the Walking Dead hit a new series low, pulling only a 0.06 rating with 465K total viewers on low-viewership Memorial Day Weekend.  That show is currently in its final season.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

I had not added Netflix’s The Witcher–which was renewed for a fourth season and now a fifth–to the Cancellation/Renewal Score tally, nor had I counted the cancellation of FXX’s Little Demon. With the true-up for those two, the current score stands at 35 shows renewed (42% of shows tracked) vs. 34 cancelled and ending (41%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Show Count 83
Cancelled 19 22.9%
Ending 15 18.1% 41.0%
Renewed 35 42.2%
