Why Did It End? This darker take on the Archie comics started out as a popular addition to The CW’s lineup, but its audience dropped off notably during the later part of its run.  It still might have gone for another season or two if the network had not changed ownership, but the show did not fit with the new model focusing on inexpensive programming targeted at an older demographic.  Riverdale was still given the opportunity to wrap up its storylines and the name recognition it brings, along with its notable episode count, will allow it to live on for years in encore runs.
