Motherland Fort Salem Renewed for Third and Final Season by Freeform

Freeform’s supernatural drama Motherland Fort Salem will continue for a third season, and that will be its last. The network made the announcement a day prior to its second season finale. That show has been a modest performer in the linear ratings and I have had it as a Bubble entry during both its first and second season. But despite its ratings drop this year, I noted that it still had a chance to come back for a third season as that has been the typical pattern of genre entries on the network. Stitchers, Shadowhunters, and Siren were all either modest performers for Freeform or experienced notable ratings drops, but all survived for three seasons (Cloak & Dagger was cancelled after two, but that had more to do with the Disney buyout of FOX Entertainment). The difference with Motherland Fort Salem is that its final season is being announced in advance, so it will have the chance to resolve its storylines. Stitchers and Siren were left unresolved while Shadowhunters had a two-hour finale added to its third season episode order. The third and final season of MFS will likely air on the network at some point in 2022.

Motherland Fort Salem takes place in a modern-day alternate history where witches ended their persecution three hundred years ago by making a deal with the government to act as a special force for the military. It stars Taylor Hickson, Amalia Holm, Demetria McKinney, Jessica Sutton, and Ashley Nicole William.
