Unlike Netflix, Hulu seems to be showing a little more patience with its streaming originals as it has renewed The Hardy Boys for a second season. That show received little in the way of promotion from the streamer and did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 when it debuted in December 2020. But despite the fact that I questioned the show’s future and had it as a Bubble series, it will be going forward with a second season. Netflix, on the other hand, has cancelled several high-profile genre entries this season that performed well in the Nielsen rankings like Jupiter’s Legacy, The Irregulars, and Away. The Hardy Boys comes from Nelvana and Lambur Productions and apparently has registered well with the global audience. President of Nelvana Pam Westman had the following to say about the renewal:
It’s no mystery that The Hardy Boys has captured audiences of all ages around the world. We are excited to work with Lambur, Hulu and Corus again on a new high-stakes case for the Hardy Boys gang, as they race against the clock to uncover the truth of a mysterious disappearance.
Nelvana previously produced a short-lived Hardy Boys TV series in the mid-90’s that was released into syndication. That show is not linked to the one currently streaming on Hulu. The second season of the new series will likely have its debut at some point in 2022.
The Hardy Boys follows the two brothers Frank and Joe Hardy who apply their super-sleuth abilities to uncover the truth about something quite menacing happening in their own town of Bridgeport. It stars Rohan Campbell, Alexander Elliot, James Tupper, Keana Lyn, and Linda Thorson.
