Ratings Results of Interest

On Monday of last week, NBC’s new sci fi entry Debris regained some of the viewership that it had lost the previous week. It posted a 0.44 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 3.3 million total viewers. That was up from its prior score of 0.36, but down still from the 0.59 rating it had for its premiere. I was on the verge of moving the show to Bubble status after its second-week drop, but I am going to hold off on that for now. It if remains above a 0.40 rating, it may still have a chance for a second season because the broadcast nets may be leery about cancelling shows in the current pandemic environment. But fans need to start making some noise on the social nets to bring more attention to this one.

Over on TNT on Monday, Snowpiercer slipped to a 0.19 rating with 891K total viewers, but that show has already been renewed for a third season. On Tuesday on The CW, The Flash slipped to a 0.22 rating with 982K total viewers while Superman & Lois slipped to a 0.23 rating with 1.2 million total viewers. Both of those shows have already been renewed, though. On Wednesday on Syfy, Resident Alien improved to a 0.22 rating with 1.3 million total viewers. The second season renewal for that show was announced last week (more on that below).

On Friday, Syfy’s Wynonna Earp slipped to a 0.04 rating, though its total viewers improved to 326K. On Sunday, AMC’s The Walking Dead slipped another tick to a 0.56 rating with 2.1 million total viewers. That show is winding down its tenth season and will be back for an eleventh and final year. Over on Starz, American Gods held steadily low at a 0.03 rating with 182K total viewers for its Season 3 finale. That show is currently very much On the Bubble.

Sci Fi TV News of Note

Syfy’s new series Resident Alien has been the best-performing scripted series on that network in several years and not surprisingly it has been renewed for a second season. According to Deadline it was the most-watch new cable drama from the past year based on total viewers and second most-watched based on the key 18-49 demographic . . . Three more Game of Thrones spin-offs are currently in the works at HBO.  9 Voyages will follow the voyages Lord Corlys Velaryon on the Sea Snake vessel.  Flea Bottom will be set in the infamous slums of King’s Landing.  10,000 Ships will focus on Princess Nymeria, who journeyed with the Rhoynar to Dorne and married Lord Mors Martell . . . Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey has been set to star in Zak Penn’s sci fi series Beacon 23.  That one focuses on two people who find themselves in a battle of wills at the end of the universe. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Tales from the Loop (Amazon, 1st Season Ended, Status – Ended): Nearly one year after this show premiered there has been no word on a second season so I am going to assume it has ended. The format of the show is quite flexible, though, so it is always possible that it could return at some point, maybe with a new cast. But as for now, it appears that a second season is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+, Streaming 1st Season, Status – Mini-Series): As with WandaVision, this show is designed as a mini-series that will tell a complete story over its six episodes.  However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said that there are ideas for a second season, so it is possible this one could continue beyond its inaugural run.
