Breaking News: Syfy Renews Resident Alien for a Second Season

Coming as no surprise, Syfy has renewed its new dramedy series Resident Alien for a second season. That show, which stars Firefly alum Alan Tudyk, has performed very well for the network in its freshman season, and according to Deadline it was the most-watch new cable drama from the past year based on total viewers and second most-watched based on the key 18-49 demographic. The network’s scripted programming has been performing poorly the last few years, but this show has bucked that trend.  It debuted on Syfy on January 27th with a simulcast of the premiere on the USA Network, and the show is now available for streaming on NBC’s Peacock service. Both critics and viewers have responded well to the series and it currently holds a 93% Fresh Rating and a 90% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. It wraps up its first season on March 31st, and the second season should premiere during the first half of 2022.

Resident Alien focuses on an alien that crashlands on Earth near a small town in Colorado and takes over the identity of a human doctor. His mission is to destroy the humans on the plant, but he starts having doubts as he interacts with them. It stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler and it is based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse.
