Breaking News: The CW Renews Superman & Lois for a Second Season

The Happy Net strikes again! The CW–which prefers to renew shows rather than cancel them–has given the greenlight to its new Arrow-verse series Superman & Lois for a second season. That show premiered last week to good ratings for the fifth place network, pulling a 0.37 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 1.75 million total viewers. And the Live+3 delayed viewing improved that to 2.7 million total viewers. The show also apparently did well in streaming on the network’s app according to a statement by CW boss Mark Pedowitz:

The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment.

The network already issued a blanket renewal announcement for the majority of its lineup last month and, coming as no surprise, this series will now be joining the other renewed shows set to return for the 2021-22 season.

Superman & Lois follows the titular characters who return to Smallville to lead a life as a family with their sons Jonathan and Jordan. But their hopes for a quiet life together are upended when a mysterious figure known as the Stranger arrives. It stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Jordan Elsass, Alex Garfin, and Erik Valdez and it is based on the classic DC Comics characters.

We are still waiting to hear word on quite a number of other genre shows like HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Netflix’s Cursed, and Hulu’s The Hardy Boys, so stay tuned for more announcements.
