Sci Fi TV Premieres: A rundown of all the new and returning sci fi and fantasy TV shows and original movies that will have a premiere in the current month. This information is based on premieres announced at the time of this posting (though check back for updates) and will include trailers if available. Note that premiere dates and times can change with little or no notice.
August kicks off the 2026-2027 season, though with a somewhat slim offering for sci fi and fantasy original TV shows. There are five currently on the schedule this year, two less that in August 2025. In addition, there are two original genre films on the way, and most of this month’s orginals arrive in the first week. The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 2 kicks things on Sunday, followed by a new season of the long-running Futurama on Monday. Then the latest addition of the animated Star Wars Presents animated series, The Ninth Jedi, drops on Wednesday. Mid-month we get the next entry in the DCU reboot with Lanterns, and August wraps up with the second season of Apple TV’s Dark Matter. Ragebait leads off the original movies on Tuesday on the horror streamer ScreamBox, and Netlfix’s The Last House has its premiere three days later. The Librarians: The Next Chapter (Season 2), August 2nd
The Librarians: The Next Chapter, TNT: This season, the team must confront not only external threats but also their own deepest fears and darkest nightmares. Lysa (Olivia Morris) and Connor (Bluey Robinson) grapple with the realities of their new roles as Librarians, while Charlie (Jessica Green) struggles under the weight of being the team’s sole Guardian. Vikram (Callum McGowan), meanwhile, must surrender his lone-wolf instincts to fully embrace team mentality. Further complicating matters, the group unexpectedly crosses paths with legendary magician Merlin (Dominic Monaghan), who challenges the very foundation of the Library and tempts them to break its most sacred rule. Premieres August 2nd 9 PM EST.
Futurama, August 3rd
Futurama, Hulu: Brace yourselves… The future is about to get a whole lot stranger! It’s a non-stop onslaught of swaggering space pirates, lab-grown meats, sexy scams… plus the shocking return of Dr. Zoidberg’s lost love! You didn’t see that coming, prior to being told about it just now! The first two Season 14 eps will be available August 3rd.
Ragebait ORIGINAL MOVIE, August 4th
Ragebait, ScreamBox: On Halloween night, a socially parasitic live streamer becomes the target of a malevolent entity after a mysterious viewer curses his stream, forcing him to watch a collection of cursed videos from missing content creators.As his stream continues, he reacts to a series of disturbing clips, each tied to creators who have disappeared under unsettling circumstances. The videos grow increasingly dark, blurring the line between entertainment and reality as the situation escalates. As the night unfolds, the consequences of the curse intensify, drawing him deeper into a chain of events he cannot control, and forcing him to confront the true cost of his pursuit of attention. Original movie premieres August 4th.
Star Wars Visions Presents-The Ninth Jedi NEW SERIES, August 5th
Star Wars Visions-The Ninth Jedi, Disney+: PKara and her ragtag Jedi crew seek out to find worthy Jedi to fight against an increasingly powerful warlord. All Episodes will be available on August 5th.
The Last House ORIGINAL MOVIE, August 7th
The Last House, Netflix: A family of four are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped. Original movie premieres August 7th.
Lanterns NEW SERIES, August 16th
Lanterns, HBO Max: The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery. Premieres August 16th at 9 PM EST.
Dark Matter, August 28th
Dark Matter, Apple TV: Season two picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. The first Season 2 ep will be available August 28th.
