School Spirits has been renewed for a fourth season.

School Spirits Has Been Renewed for a Fourth Season by Paramount+

In yet another renewal announcement–the third this week for a sci fi/fantasy series–Paramount+ has given the greenlight for a fourth season of its supernatural drama School Spirits. The third season of that show premiered in January, and while it has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, the show has a secondary licensing deal with Netflix where seasons have an encore run on that service about eight months after they premiere on Paramount+, and it typically performs better there. This is an interesting new model as the collaboration across services gives an opportunity for shows to find a bigger audience and could help sustain them for longer runs. With the fourth season renewal, School Spirits has already outlasted most streaming originals which typically do not go beyond three years. And it could potentially continue longer if Netflix viewership remains strong. Co-creator Megan Trinrud had the following to say about plans of the upcoming fourth season (WARNING, this contains SPOILERS for the third season):

What I find genuinely interesting is being stuck somewhere for so long and then being released into the world — only to realize how hard it is to exist in that huge space again. The world has changed. Split River as a school is a very tight little environment. What’s out there is very different, and I think it will be a real shock.

This announcement brings the Cancellation/Renewal score for the 2025-26 season to 26 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (57% of shows tracked) vs. 10 cancelled and ending (22%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page. This week’s other announcements included the renewal of For All Mankind, the renewal for Wonder Man and the cancellation for Starfleet Academy.

School Spirits is a supernatural drama series that follows Maddie Nears, a teenager who finds herself stuck in the afterlife at her high school while trying to solve the mystery of her own disappearance. As she navigates the complexities of the spirit world and uncovers secrets about her friends and classmates, Maddie embarks on a journey of self-discovery and justice from beyond the grave. It stars Peyton List, Kristian Ventura, Milo Manheim, Spencer MacPherson, and Kiara Pichardo and it is based on the graphic novel by the Trinruds and Maria Nguyen.

We are approaching the Upfronts in May when the networks and streaming services announce their lineups for the upcoming season, and starting to get some announcements on the current sci fi TV entries, so I am expecting more renewal and cancellation updates over the next month or so.
