Status Updates

One Piece (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This live-action anime adaptation held onto the Number 1 slot in the Netflix Top 10, pulling in 90.3 million hours of viewing across 11.1 million households in the second week of its second season. It was renewed in advance for a third year, which is already in production, and it could continue beyond that.

Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale (AMC+, Status: Renewal Possible): This show’s second season premiered on Christmas Day, and there has been no word on a third season yet. It streams on AMC+ and Sundance NOW which are not tracked by Nielsen, so we do not know the viewership numbers. Word is that this one has performed well for those services, but fans of the show might want to start making some noise on the social networks to nudge AMC towards a renewal decision.

It: Welcome to Derry (HBO, Status: Renewal Possible): There has still been no official word on a second season of this show, but the creators assure us that it is coming. Barbara Muschietti told Collider in an interview: “We’re all working towards it. We are working, the studio is working”. Andy Muschietti said that “sometimes the announcements come a little delayed because of deals and stuff”. This show delivered the third most-watched debut for the HBO Max streaming service, so HBO should certainly have an interest in bringing it back. Production has begun, so stay tuned for an official announcement on this one.
