Cancellation Watch: What If Enters the Nielson Rankings, Masters of the Universe Revolution Makes the Netflix Top 10, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

What If (Disney+, Status: Renewed): This animated, alternate universe series made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week after its second season premiere. It was releasing one episode per day and that got it up to the Number 6 slot with an estimated 513 minutes of viewing. The show has already been renewed for a third season–which is in the works–and could continue beyond that.

Masters of the Universe: Revolution Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): Part 1 of the second series in this animated He-Man revival from Kevin Smith entered the Netflix Top 10 the week of its premiere, ranking at Number 9 with 3.4 million hours viewed across 1.5 million accounts. Part 2 is set to stream later this year, but there is no word yet on whether this one will continue beyond that.

School Spirits Netflix / Paramount+, Status: Renewed): This supernatural comedy premiered on Paramount+ last year and did not make it into the charts, though it did get a second-season renewal. It is now streaming on Netflix as well and its first season has appeared in the Nielsen Streaming rankings for four weeks in a row. The second year of the show is already in the works, and this surge in popularity could give it enough momentum to push it into a third season. It could also facilitate a move over to Netflix if Paramount+ decides not to move forward with the show due to cost-cutting like it did with Wolf Pack (more on that at this link).

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+, Status: Renewal Possible): This fantasy series improved to Number 3 for its second week in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings with an estimated 700 minutes of viewing. Those are good numbers for this streamer and should help the show get a second-season renewal.

Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.
