Sci Fi TV Highlights: Quantum Leap Returns from Hiatus, U.S.S. Callister Series in the Works, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Schedule Notes:

NBC’s Quantum Leap resumes new episodes this week, moving timeslots to Tuesdays at 10 PM EST following La Brea through the rest of its second season. Percy Jackson and the Olympians wraps up its first season on Disney+ on Tuesday, and based on the early viewership numbers it looks likely that this one will continue to a second season. He-Man and the Master of the Universe: Revolution had the premiere of its first part on Netflix last week which was contrary to a schedule change that I saw for that show. The second part of that series will be released later this year. Below are the full listings for the current week, and you can see all of the premieres for February and beyond at this link. The two-week view of the schedule is available here.

Sci Fi TV News:

A mini-series based on the “U.S.S. Callister” episode of Black Mirror is in the works at Netflix. That offered a Star Trek-spoof of sorts that existed in a virtual world, and the episode proved to be very popular. There were talks of a sequel episode, but now it appears that will be expanded into a mini-series. There are no details on the story at this point, but the show will be produced Broke and Bones which is the production company established by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones. Stay tuned for updates on this one.

A prequel series to the post-apocalyptic film The Book of Eli is currently in the works from Alcon Entertainment.  It will star John Boyega as a younger version of the character originally played by Denzel Washington and will take place thirty years prior to the events in the film.  No network or streaming service is attached at this point, but the show should draw some interest.

In cancellation news, Paramount+ has decided not to go forward with a second season of its supernatural drama Wolf Pack even though pre-production had already begun.  More on that at this link.

In scheduling news, the final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch has received a premiere date of February 21st on Disney+.  You can see the trailer for that at this link.  In addition, the second half of Invincible Season 2 will premiere March 14th on Prime Video.
