Cancellation Watch: First Kill and Ms. Marvel Enter the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, Westworld Improves, and More

Nielsen Streaming Top 10

Sci fi and fantasy shows took up half of the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for originals for the week of June 6th to 12th with Netflix’s Stranger Things again topping the chart.  That show pulled in an estimated 4.2 billion minutes of viewing for the third week after its fourth season was released.  At the Number 2 slot was Amazon’s The Boys which had 919 million minutes of viewing for the second week of its third season.  Slipping in the charts was Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi which dropped to the Number 5 slot (down from Number 3) with 682 million minutes viewed.  Entering the chart was Netflix’s vampire drama First Kill which was at the Number 9 slot with 331 million minutes.  And Disney+’s Ms. Marvel rounded out the rankings at Number 10 with 249 million minutes viewed.  Still not making it into the Top 10 was Hulu’s The Orville which was in the second week of its third season, and that may put a damper on this show getting a fourth-year renewal.  Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Netflix Top 10:

The Netflix Top 10 for the week of June 27th to July 3rd was pretty much the same as the prior week for genre shows, just a different shuffle.  Stranger Things Seasons 1 through 4 remained on the chart with the fourth season retaking the Number 1 slot from The Umbrella Academy.  The superhero series slipped to Number 2 with its first season remaining in the chart at Number 8.  Slipping out was the vampire drama First Kill which dropped out after a three-week run.  Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the Netflix charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

On Sunday, HBO’s Westworld improved to a 0.07 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 312K total viewers.  That is its best numbers yet for its fourth season, and the streaming numbers for its season premiere should be available in a couple of weeks, so we should have a better gauge of its prospects at that time.

On Tuesday last week, Tom Swift slipped in the ratings as expected without a lead-in from a new episode of Superman & Lois (which has wrapped up its season).  The show posted a 0.04 rating in the demo with 302K total viewers, but the numbers are academic at this point since it has already been cancelled.  Over on Freeform, Motherland Fort Salem improved to a 0.05 rating with 113K total viewers.  That show is in its final season.
