Upload Loads Another Season for Amazon’s Prime Video

There is another renewal for the week, though this one is less surprising than the last two.  Amazon has given the greenlight for a third season of its cyber-dramedy Upload which was pretty much expected.  This show comes from The Office‘s Greg Daniels and he has had more success on Prime Video than Netflix (where Space Force was just cancelled after two seasons).  According to Amazon’s Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders, Upload has proven to be quite popular for the streaming service:

Upload has become a bonafide hit that continues to be one of the most watched comedy originals on Prime Video. The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity. With Greg’s distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they’ve made a globally relevant series which we’re all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.

The second season of the show spent two weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for originals, topping out at an estimated 441 million minutes viewed for its premiere week.  It has also scored well with critics and viewers, currently holding a 94% Fresh Rating and 83% Audience Score across its first two seasons at Rotten Tomatoes.  There was nearly a two-year delay between the first and second season due to pandemic-related shutdowns, but there should be less of a wait for the third year as it should arrive early-to-mid 2023.

Upload takes place in a near-future where humans can upload themselves to a virtual afterlife where they can live on forever.  Nathan Brown is uploaded to the expensive Lakeview–paid for by his girlfriend–but he discovers he still has some unfinished business back in the real world while also developing feelings for the customer service agent that looks over him.  It stars Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson, and Kevin Bigley.
