Shudder Renews Creepshow and Slasher

AMC’s horror-focused streaming service Shudder has given renewals to two of its original series: the anthology series Creepshow will return for a fourth season and the serial killer drama Slasher will return for a fifth year.  The renewal for the former comes as no surprise as Creepshow–which is based on the George A. Romero and Stephen King movie of the same name and inspired by EC Comics–has been one of the most-watched originals on Shudder.  It has also had encore runs on AMC where it has performed well in linear viewing.  The third season of that show was released in Fall 2021 and the fourth season will likely arrive late 2022 or early 2023.

Slasher is a season-long horror anthology focusing on a different serial killer each year and it first premiered on the cable channel Chiller in 2016.  That network closed its doors the following year and it seemed the show would come to an end as well, but serial killers have a way of bouncing back.  Slasher then moved to Netflix for two seasons before making the jump to Shudder for its fourth year.  The upcoming fifth season will be subtitled Ripper and Deadline gives the following synopsis:

The series is heading back in time to the late 19th century — there’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may wind up being yet another victim.

Expect that to arrive on the streaming service later this year or early in 2023.
