Sci Fi/Fantasy TV Shows Premiering This Week
Three genre entries join the schedule this week, all three on the streaming services.
The Witcher (Season 2 Premieres on Netflix December 17th): Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside. All episodes will be available for viewing on Friday.
Firebite (Premieres on AMC+ December 16th): This eight-episode series takes a new spin on the vampire genre, following two Indigenous Australian hunters, Tyson (Rob Collins, Cleverman, Extraction) and Shanika (Indigenous Australian star Shantae Barnes-Cowan), on their quest to battle the last colony of vampires in the middle of the South Australian desert. The first episode will be available for streaming on Thursday and the show will release one episode per week after that.
Station Eleven (Premieres on HBO Max December 16th): A limited series based on Emily St. John Mandel’s international bestseller, Station Eleven is a post-apocalyptic saga that follows survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost. This series premieres on Friday and will release one episode per week. And thanks to Jon Jones and Steven Fine for bringing this to our attention.
Schedule Notes:
Star Trek: Prodigy begins its encore run on Nickelodeon this week on Friday at 8 PM EST. Wrapping up this week, The Flash, 4400, Legacies and the other CW shows will air their Mid-Season finales (all of which appear to be on track for renewal). And Syfy’s Day of the Dead will have its season finale on Friday (that show is currently On the Bubble). There are a few more shows arriving in December, and you can see the current schedule at this link. Mid-Season is just around the corner (starting in January) and you can get a preliminary look at that schedule at this link.
