The British Space Opera series Intergalactic has been cancelled by Sky after one season. That show has not received much attention in the U.S., though it is available for streaming on Peacock. Sky exec Gabriel Silvers said that the network had been “disappointed with audience figures” during its first season. Silvers also made the claim that it is hard to attract audiences to “English-accented sci-fis” which I personally consider to be a cop-out. Doctor Who has performed quite well here as well as other “English-accented” entries like Black Mirror and Orphan Black. If they are good shows and receive network support, sci fi fans will find them and watch them. Intergalactic was not well-received by critics or fans during its first season, currently holding a 50% Fresh Rating and 48% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. A review from The Telegraph dismissed the show with the comment “in space no one can hear you yawn” (thanks to Jon Jones for the quote). Sky had purchased the rights to Blake’s 7 and was allegedly working on a reboot of that ’80s cult-favorite. Intergalactic worked in some of the same concepts and themes found in that sci fi drama, so it is unclear if Sky veered away from its original reboot plans to instead produce an all-new series. In either case, the show fell short of expectations and will not continue into a second season.
Intergalactic follows sky cop Ash Harper who is framed for a crime she did not commit and sent to an off-world prison. On the way there, a mutiny breaks out and a group of female criminals force Harper to fly their escape ship as they go on the run from the oppressive forces of the Commonworld government. It stars Savannah Steyn, Eleanor Tomlinson, Natasha O’Keeffe, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and Thomas Turgoose.

I really enjoyed this show. It wasn’t the most original sci-fi series, but for an action scifi series what was done was done well. And I’ve watched a lot of sci-fi. Very disappointed that yet another promising sci-fi series (I’m thinking also of Moonhaven) has been cancelled. Some comments above have a distinct whiff of misogyny.
It just came to HBOMAX in Norway, I don’t know why. I love Sci-Fi and I really tried to not throw up watching this.
I am a fan of Sci-fi and fantasy and I can watch almost everything. And I tried to watch this new series till episode four. And I do hate to stop watching a series because it is unbearable, but that is what this series is. All the pretty obsolete feminist agenda (not really feminist, just a mix up really) aside, why the immortality of this new aurum infused lady should come to her ovary and eggs? Did the writer really that run out of ideas? Every grown up kid, non necessarily a scientist, knows that you can harvest DNA from every cell. But, no. You had to strap her naked obviously under a cover and go inside her to get the eggs. This is more than absurd. And then he plays a Mozart! This is bad, very bad writing and it has been done quite obviously intentionally. Does it look like feminist? I think the best way to screw something is to defend it badly. Like they very successfully did in this series.
So, I have stopped watching this. And give a shitty feedback to HBOmax as well.
I am happy this is cancelled. I prefer it to be removed from HBOMAX as well. It is a platform that has GOT for god’s sake!

I wanted it cancelled halfway through the first season. It was by far one of worst scifi tv show I have ever seen. It showed a lot of promise only turn out to be great disappointment. To many discrepancies in the story line that I kept wondering, what the heII. I did not care for the lesbian kissing scene. I was so glad when I read it was cancelled. Maybe now they can replace it with something worth watching.
I was an extra in episode 10 that never got shown as it wasn’t completed because of Covid. Once I saw the 8 episodes that were released I realised that episode 10 would never see the light of day. Very poor script and extremely dodgy acting from some of the cast. It’s a shame as I guess it cost a reasonable amount to make and they were one of the nicer crews to work with.

We filmed in the woods near Alderley Edge in Cheshire. It was a scene set on the rebel held planet of Arcadia, which if I remember was supposed to have 6 or 7 moons one of which supposedly eclipsed the sun during the scene. I was a soldier for the Commonworld, dressed in black, with a rather incongruous 21st century pistol. The filming was on a bright but very cold March day last year but at least they gave us blankets in between shooting- although the actors got nice big coats!
It was a key scene in episode 10 of the story, but even though it hasn’t been renewed, I probably shouldn’t say too much. A couple of times people out for a walk stumbled across the set as they came through the fake mist and had quite a shock.
Some of the extras went down south a few days later to film some follow-on scenes, and I had a couple of further days booked for indoor shots at Space Studios in Manchester, which was the production base but Covid stopped that.
Another extra from the shoot bumped into one of the Assistant Directors earlier on this year. He said that they had expected to complete the 10 episodes but then realised that there was a natural break at the end of episode 8 so the remaining two episodes would become part of any second series. Having watched the series, I guess the natural break is true to some extent, although it felt quite abrupt to me, with none of the story arcs being resolved.
I thought the script seemed to have been written by someone who had probably watched Star Wars and Dr Who but had read very little science fiction. It made it hard for the actors and several seemed to be struggling to get the right tone with some opting for scene-chewing and others appearing as if they would rather be somewhere else. It’s a shame that it seems to have put Sky off making other SF series.
Hi, I don’t want to criticize. That’s not my intention. I just wanna explain one thing that you said.
He wanted her eggs so he could fertilize it and breed immortal people or clone her. He didn’t just want her DNA. The guy was a fanatic for breeding species. I liked the idea of the show and a prison off planet. I wish they had spent more time in the prison setting, trying to get out. I think that they had lots of potential, but unfortunately the execution did fall a little short. I still wanted to know how it would end though. I got invested lol
