Weekly Roundup: Manifest Continues to See Gains in Delayed Viewing

Weekly Roundup: Ratings results and status updates on all the currently airing sci fi & fantasy shows as well as those still awaiting word on their fates. For the latest ratings updates throughout the week, be sure to follow the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site

Changes to the Weekly Roundup

This will be the final Weekly Roundup post in this format. We have come to the end of an era as ShowBuzzDaily has closed down due to severe technical issues. That site has been providing detailing Nielsen ratings data for years, and there is no other site on the web with similar insights into those measurements. With the demise of ShowBuzzDaily along with TV by the Numbers closing down back in early 2020, I no longer have a consistent source for the ratings of the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks and cable channels. But as I said in the last post, we are seeing fewer and fewer offerings from those venues and that ratings have become less of a gauge of their success. I do still have a few sources where I can pull data, though they are not as reliable. I will continue to report those numbers while available.

The Weekly Roundup will now become part of a new ongoing column to be titled Sci Fi TV Status Update. That will come out a the end of the week and will include any notable ratings data that is available, status updates, the digital ratings, as well as notable sci fi TV news and updates. That column will begin the week of June 21st and there will be no Weekly Update post next week because I will be traveling. We will continue to keep you updated on the status of sci fi TV shows at this site, but the predictions will play less of a part of that unless more reliable ratings data becomes available.

Ratings Results of Interest

The same-day ratings for NBC’s Manifest have slipped as its third season has progressed, but that show continues to see decent gains from delayed viewing. Since the show’s May 13th episode, it has dropped to around a 0.40 rating, but for both nights where Live+7 numbers are available it has seen notable gains. Overall, the show has averaged a 0.47 score based on the same-day numbers but has improved that by over ninety percent to a 0.91 score based on the delayed viewing. The network still has not made a decision on a fourth season, but I would say that the show has a better than fifty percent chance of returning for another year. Fans should make some noise on the social networks to help show their support.

Sci Fi TV News of Note

Yet another Netflix genre entry has fallen as the streamer has cancelled Jupiter’s Legacy after one season and less than a month after it premiered. That show went straight to the top of the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for the week of its premiere, but apparently Netflix did not have confidence that viewers would continue to tune in for future seasons, though they are developing the series Supercrooks which is set in the same universe . . . Bucking the recent trend of cancellations by that streamer, the fantasy series Shadow and Bone has been renewed for a second season by Netflix. The show also performed well in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 and will return in 2022 with another eight-episode season . . . FX has announced premiered dates for four of its upcoming genre entries. The tenth season of American Horror Story (subtitled Double Feature) will premiere on August 25th while the spin-off series American Horror Stories will start streaming on FX on Hulu on July 15th. For the Fall season, What We Do in the Shadows will have its third season premiere on September 2nd.  And the long-delayed Y: The Last Man will premiere on FX on Hulu on September 13th.  You can see the Summer schedule at this link and the Fall lineup at this link. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Sweet Tooth (Netflix, Streaming First Season, Status – Renewal Possible): There was a time when originals on Netflix had a decent chance of continuing to a second season, but the streamer has been quick to cancel of late. Should this show draw much of a fan following, it would be a good idea for them to make some noise on the social networks to bring more attention to it.

The Hardy Boys (Hulu, Streaming 1st Season, Status – On the Bubble): This series received very little promotion from Hulu and does not appear to have garnered much attention for its first season run. It did not make the Nielsen Streaming Ratings Top 10 for its premiere week and its highest rank on IMDb Pro’s MOVIEMeter has been 112 so far. Consider this show’s status to be iffy, and fans may want to make a Call to Action on the social nets to support it.
