Sci Fi TV Listings for the Week of December 14th: Premieres for The Expanse and The Stand

Weekly roundup of science fiction and fantasy shows (as well as movies/specials of note) on the Prime Time TV schedule, also including programs that may be of interest to genre fans. Air dates and times subject to change without notice.

This week brings two of the last big premieres of the season as Fall 2020 comes to a close. On Wednesday, the much-anticipated Season 5 premiere of Amazon’s The Expanse arrives with the first three episodes available for viewing that day. After that, the show will release one episode per week through the rest of its fifth season. On Thursday, the CBS All Access reboot of The Stand mini-series has its premiere with the first episode available that day. The rest of the episodes will release one per week. Also this week, Disney+’s The Mandalorian has its Season 2 finale on Friday. That show has already been renewed for a third year. Also of note, the Batman prequel series Pennyworth quietly returned to EPIX’s schedule this past week on Sundays at 9 PM EST. It has been a mostly slow Fall season up until now, with fewer offerings on the schedule due to the pandemic-related shutdowns. But things will ramp up at Mid-Season with the return of The Flash, Legacies, Manifest, American Horror Story, and more. You can see the preliminary 2021 schedule at this link.

  1. Dropping out of nowhere (I had no idea it was airing) the second series of Pennyworth started on Sunday December 13th. With a new episode each week on Epix (US), Showcase (Canada) And StarzPlay (UK).

    1. Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking that one had a January start. These networks need to do a better job of promoting their own shows.

    2. Upon review, I had it right there on the Fall schedule. Just missed it when doing last week’s listings. Too many TV shows to keep up with . . .

      1. No worries Johnny. It not like they advertised it. I sometimes wonder if the TV exec’s even want people to watch their shows.
