Coming as no surprise, HBO Max has given the greenlight for a third season of the DC superhero series Doom Patrol. That show premiered on the DC Universe streaming service in 2019, and was well-received in its first season. It moved to HBO Max with its second season and continued to find favor among fans and critics. All of the originals that were exclusive to DCU have now moved to HBO Max, as the former streamer appears to be on its way out. The new service currently does not have too much in the way of original content to offer, so I have been working under the assumption that HBO Max will keep the DCU shows going for a while in order to bolster its scripted offerings. The animated Harley Quinn is currently awaiting word on its fate, and I am guessing it has a good chance of returning for a third season as well. The live-action Titans will be returning for its third season next year, and the animated Young Justice is headed into its fourth season.
Doom Patrol focuses on a misfit group of superheroes–which includes Crazy Jane, Elasti-Girl, Negative Man, Cyborg, and Robotman–brought together by a man known as the Chief to prove that they can make a difference in the world. It stars Diane Guerrero, April Bowlby, Matt Bomer, Brendan Fraser, Timothy Dalton, and Alan Tudyk and is based on the DC comic book of the same name.
Expect more announcements now that the 2019-20 season ended as we are still waiting for word on shows like Netflix’s Cursed, AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere, and Hulu’s Castle Rock.
