Breaking News: Netflix Has Renewed The Dragon Prince Through its Seventh Season

Netflix’s animated series The Dragon Prince has been renewed for four more seasons which will take the show through a seventh year (it’s third season debuted in Fall 2019). The announcement came at the show’s Comic-Con@Home panel on Friday. This will take the series through the full seven-season saga that was planned out in advance. This is also a rare instance of a Netflix series continuing beyond a fourth season. That streamer typically wraps up its originals after their third or fourth year because by that time the cost of the show vs. the subscription draw generally does not justify keeping it going for additional seasons. But The Dragon Prince is a high-profile series coming from Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Aaron Ehasz. And Netflix did keep Voltron: Legendary Defender going for eight seasons, so there is some precedence for extended runs among its animated entries.

The Dragon Prince takes place on a world where humans have separated themselves from elves and other magical creatures. But two humans and one elf come together to save the last dragon egg and potentially reunite all of the living beings on their planet.  Its voice cast includes Jack DeSena, Paula Burrows, Sasha Rojen, Jason Simpson, and Racquel Belmonte.

There could be more renewal announcements coming during the upcoming Comic-Con@Home panels and we are still waiting for word on shows like Netflix’s Altered Carbon, AMC’s Dispatches from Elsewhere, and Freeform’s Siren.
