Breaking News: The Walking Dead Season 10 Will Get Six More Episodes

Fans of The Walking Dead have been waiting for word on when the Season 10 finale would air after it was delayed in Spring due to the Coronavirus-related production shutdowns. At the Comic-Con@Home panel for the series, the announcement was made that the “finale” will air this Fall on October 4th, but the additional news accompanying that is that the season will be extended by six episodes. TWD usually has its season premiere in Fall and then wraps up in Winter after it takes a hiatus for a couple months. This Fall will only bring what was intended as the Season 10 finale, but then an additional six episodes are planned that will be targeted for an early 2021 premiere.

Since the show was already set to launch into the next big storyline (which will introduce The Commonwealth) after the planned season finale, the new episodes will almost certainly cover territory planned for the eleventh season. But these will basically be used to tide the fans over until production gets back to normal, and almost certainly Season 11 will be held until a Fall 2021 start. There have been rumors that the show will end with its twelfth season, and this six-episode extension could make it easier for writers to wrap things up over what will amount to two-and-a-half more seasons. This is just speculation at this point, but it would not be surprising if the show were to come to a close around its twelfth year.

Also announced during the Comic-Con@Home panels was the premiere of the upcoming spin-off series The Walking Dead: World Beyond which will be on October 4th after the TWD Season 10 “finale” (transitional?) episode airs. Then the next week on October 11th, Fear the Walking Dead will return for its sixth season, airing at 9 PM EST.
