Weekly Roundup: Snowpiercer Slows Again, Vagrant Queen Has Last Gasp, and More

Weekly Roundup: Ratings results and status updates on all the currently airing sci fi & fantasy shows as well as those still awaiting word on their fates. For the latest ratings updates throughout the week, be sure to follow the Cancelled Sci Fi Twitter Site

Changes to the Weekly Roundup: There are fewer and fewer sci fi and fantasy shows tracked by the Nielsens heading into Summer and that will continue into Fall due to delays related to the production shutdowns. Because of that, I will be making a change to the Weekly Roundup posts. The ratings for most of the shows currently airing do not shift that much from week to week, so there is not much need for commentary. I will start adding a grid showing the full ratings for the week and only add commentary on shows with notable ratings information. Also, the Status Updates will be moving to a central location at this link. If there are notable changes to a show’s status, I will include that in the Weekly Roundup up, otherwise the main Status Update Page will have the information on all the currently airing shows plus those still awaiting word on their fate.

Ratings Results of Interest: On Sunday, TNT’s Snowpiercer slipped to a 0.28 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 1.2 million total viewers. That comes after that show saw a gain in its ratings last week, but the drop is not reason for concern at this point. It is still doing well for a basic cable series, especially in total viewers, in the current Peak TV crunch environment.  Plus, I had apparently missed (or forgot about, lots of shows to keep up with) the announcement made late last year that the show has been renewed in advance for a second season.

On Thursday, Syfy’s Vagrant Queen improved a tick to a 0.05 rating with 215K total viewers for its season final. But that will do little to help the show’s prospects as it appears it will be another one-season-and-done series for its network. What We Do in the Shadows dropped a bit this past Wednesday to a 0.15 rating with 433K total viewers. But that show has already been renewed for a third season. There are no numbers available yet this week for Penny Dreadful City of Angels ep because it is out of the cable Top 150, but the prior week that show bottomed out at 0.01 rating. It’s chances for a second season look slim at this point.

The rest of the shows held mostly steady in the ratings, and below are the numbers for all the sci fi and fantasy entries from the past week. Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

Dispatches from Elsewhere (AMC, Season Ended, Status – Cancellation Likely): The numbers for this show dropped off notably throughout its first season despite a strong lead-in from Better Call Saul. At this point, it seems unlikely it will return for a second season unless it has international financing and/or syndications deals which would keep it viable.

Vagrant Queen (Syfy, Season Ended, Status – Cancellation Likely): The ratings for this show were notably low in its first season, and Syfy shifted it out of Prime Time which which is never a good sign. Fans need to make Call to Action on the social networks RIGHT NOW because the chances this one will get cancelled are high.
