Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Sky Renews Britannia for Third Season, but Amazon Bows Out

The British network Sky Atlantic has given a third season renewal to its epic fantasy series Britannia, but will no longer be partnering with Amazon on the show. That series debuted in January 2018 over in Britain and Amazon streamed it as one of its Prime Originals in the U.S. The second season debuted on Sky in November 2019 with the initial indication that it would be available on Amazon shortly after that. But according to Deadline Hollywood, the streamer is no longer involved with the series and neither the second or third season will be available on that platform. Sky is currently looking for other U.S. partners in order to get distribution in the States.

Britannia is an epic fantasy that begins in 43 A.D. at the time of the Roman conquest of Britain. The inhabitants of that island must find a way to unify while also summoning up Celtic magic in order to defeat the invaders. It stars David Morrisey, Annabel Scholey, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Mackenzie Crook.

There are still several more shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, and Mars, and I expect announcements on Fall shows like Watchmen and The Purge relatively soon.
