Cancellation Watch Breaking News: The CW Renews The Flash, Batwoman, Riverdale, and Its Full Line-up, War of the Worlds Gets Second Season

The Happy Net strikes again as The CW has renewed all of its regular season shows including Legends of Tomorrow and Roswell New Mexico which have not started their current seasons yet. The news comes as no surprise as the network has done basically the same thing pretty regularly for the last few years, renewing most if not all of its shows. The announcement came earlier than usual this year, but apparently the network wants to get things started on the upcoming seasons before a potential writers’ strike. The renewals are as follows:

Batwoman Season 2
Black Lightning Season 4
Charmed Season 3
The Flash Season 7
Legacies Season 3
Legends of Tomorrow Season 6
Nancy Drew Season 2
Riverdale Season 5
Roswell New Mexico Season 3
Supergirl Season 6

Arrow, Supernatural, and The 100 will be ending this season. The only show that I thought might have faced struggles was Nancy Drew because it has pulled mediocre numbers in its first season. But I rarely bet against The CW when it comes to renewals. As for the Arrow-verse shows, don’t be surprised if there is a final season announcement on one or more at some point. The two mostly likely to end are Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow as they will have enough episodes for a syndication run and they are among the network’s lower-rated shows. The Flash will almost certainly continue because it is the network’s highest-rated show. And there are more Arrow-verse shows in the works with a possible female-led Arrow spin-off and a Superman and Lois series under consideration.

Also getting renewed is the French-made adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds which is set to premiere in the States February 16 on Epix. That series brings the Wells story into modern-day and its eight-episode first season aired in France in Fall 2019. It is not to be confused with the BBC production that was set in the same time period as the book and has already aired in Britain.

There are still several more shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, and Mars, and I expect announcements on Fall shows like Watchmen and The Purge relatively soon.
