Series Profile: The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Arrives on Netflix

What Is It?

This series acts as a prequel to Jim Henson’s classic 1982 fantasy film The Dark Crystal and takes place prior to the events in that movie. It will primarily use puppetry to bring the characters in its world to life as did the original production.  Here is Netflix’s official synopsis for the show:

The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

Status

It is not clear at this point if this is intended as a stand-alone mini-series or if it could carry on beyond its first season. As with most shows on the streaming services, I would assume that a second season could happen if it proves popular enough.
