Countdown to Cancellation: Word Could Come as Soon as This Week on Shows Like Constantine, Forever, Resurrection, and More

By The Network Executioner

constantine-nbc-cancelledJust around the corner are the upfronts, when the broadcast networks will announce their schedules for next season.  And by that time they need have the messy work out of the way of getting rid of this season’s laggers to make way for more shows that will likely face the ax next season.  I expect my calendar to start filling up pretty quickly over the next two weeks with appointment for shows being sent to my chopping block.

Word on those shows could come as soon as today, though the networks prefer to announce cancellations on Fridays and usually in the afternoon.  The fate of almost all of the broadcast network shows that have not been renewed yet should be announced by the time that each network presents their schedule (see below for dates).  Word on the cable shows could come later and I expect Syfy to wait until later in May or sometime in June before it sends Helix to me (that networks likes to keep fans of its shows in suspense).

One broadcast network show might get a brief stay of executioner as The CW’s The Messengers improved its numbers this last Friday (though the final numberss have not come in yet).  If that show can get its numbers up to the 0.5 level or if it holds where it is at into the Summer, then its network just might keep it around.  But for now, I still have it on my short list.

Following is the list of shows that have yet to receive a renewal–along with their status from this site’s Sci Fi TV Power Rankings–and I have grouped them by those in danger and those currently safe from me.  For those still airing, I will be commenting on their progress at my Twitter site each week until we get final word on their status.

In Danger of Facing the Executioner:

Resurrection (ABC) – Likely to be Cancelled
Galavant (ABC) – Likely to be Cancelled
Constantine (NBC) – Likely to be Cancelled
Helix (Syfy) – Likely to be Cancelled
The Messengers (CW) – Likely to be Cancelled
Forever (ABC) – Likely to be Cancelled
Agents of SHIELD (ABC) – On the Bubble
Agent Carter (ABC) – On the Bubble
Olympus (Syfy) – On the Bubble
Dig (USA) – On the Bubble
The Returned (A&E) – On the Bubble

Safe from the Executioner (for the Moment):

Salem (WGN) – Renewal Possible
iZombie (CW) – Likely to be Renewed
Person of Interest (CBS) – Likely to be Renewed
Once Upon A Time (ABC) – Sure to be Renewed

As I said above, the fates of most of these shows (particularly the broadcast network entries) should be determined by mid-May when schedules are presented to the advertisers at the upfronts.  Following are the days that each of the nets will give their presentations and expect them to release their schedules (along with all the renewals and cancellations) shortly before:

Monday, May 11, 2015 NBC (Morning)
Monday, May 11, 2015 FOX (Afternoon)
Tuesday, May 12, 2015 ABC
Wednesday, May 13, 2015 CBS
Thursday, May 14, 2015 The CW

Note that Galavant and Agent Carter may not get official cancellation notices because of their “limited run series” status.  But they will ultimately get sent to me.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter over the next few weeks as I keep an eye on the season end numbers and what they mean to the fates of the shows above that have not yet received a reprieve from facing my ax.
