Sci Fi TV Production Report: Tracking the sci fi and fantasy shows currently moving into development/production based on the listings from Production Weekly. Note that appearing on that list does not guarantee that the series will move forward.
Following are the genre entries of note included in the listings for July 30th:
Interview with the Vampire Season 4 (AMC)
This supernatural drama received a fourth-season renewal last week, and it is now showing up in the Production Weekly listings, so work on it is officially underway. It will be renamed Queen of the Damned as it adapts that book in the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles series (the prior season was named The Vampire Lestat), but it appears that AMC is still using the general title Interview with the Vampire (as I will continue to do) because that is what they have in the listing. The linear viewing numbers for this show have not been too high, but AMC’s chief content officer and president of AMC Studios, Dan McDermott, has said that the digital viewing is exceeding expectations, and the network appears to be fully on board with this franchise. McDermott also mentioned that they are considering proceeding to The Tale of the Body Thief for the fifth season, and there are thirteen total books in the series, so there is plenty more source material beyond that. In addition, Mayfair Witches will be returning for its third season, likely later this year, and even though Talamasca: The Secret Order was cancelled after one season, the network is considering other projects in the same universe. With Season 4 of Interview with the Vampire moving into production, look for it to premiere in mid to late 2027.
The Orville Season 4 (Hulu)
As covered in last week’s post, an entry for the fourth season of this show appeared in the listings, and it is there this week as well. Seth MacFarlane previously indicated that he has the scripts ready for the upcoming season and just needs to find time in his schedule to get things moving forward. The Tachyon Pulse podcast has also heard rumors of developments on the fourth season, and Hulu does want the show back, so it looks like this one just may be happening even though there has not been an official announcement yet (and it sure seems like San Diego Comic-Con would have been a perfect time for that). The show did appear in the listings for two weeks in a row all the way back in November 2024 and then disappeared until landing there again last week, so nothing is guaranteed at the moment, but fans can sure hope. They can also show their support by getting it trending on social media to prove that there is interest in more from this property, and they can vote for it in our Summer Poll.

Sugar Season 3? (Apple TV)
There is a question mark next to this one because I am not one hundred percent certain the entry from the latest listings is referring to the neo-noir Apple TV sci-fi series. It just says “Sugar,” not “Sugar 3” like we typically see for an upcoming season of a television series. I did some searching, and I do not see any reference to an upcoming movie with that name nor a different television series (a documentary on sugar maybe?) using that moniker. The second season of Sugar pulled in 1.2 million views across its first six days according to Luminate, which puts it in the lower rungs of Apple TV originals, but above the fifth season of For All Mankind and the third season of Foundation, and both of those got renewals. And considering Sugar is certainly less expensive to produce than either of those, that seems to improve its chances of getting another season. This streamer has been supportive of its originals, and with the second season wrapping up next week, they could be prepping for an announcement. I will take this as a positive development for the show, and I will keep an eye out for any additional news.
