Cancellation Watch: Interview with the Vampire Season 3 Gets Off to a Good Start, Record of Ragnarok Could Use Help from Fans, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Lestat (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): I have not seen the linear viewing numbers on this supernatural drama yet, but word is that the third season of the show is doing well on AMC+, topping that streamer’s chart. Executive producer Mark Johnson has said in an interview that he is “actively and quickly thinking about what season 4 is and exactly how soon we can make it.” He has also said that there is “no mandate” to continue basing the show on the Anne Rice novels and that it could go in an all-new direction. Considering that AMC is heavily invested in this franchise, a fourth season of this one seems like a good bet at this point.

Record of Ragnarok (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated fantasy series did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming rankings for the week of its Season 3 premiere, but it did chart in the Netflix Top 10 for three weeks. There has been no word on a fourth season six months after the third premiered, though, so I am on the verge of moving this one to Bubble status. There is plenty more material for the show to cover, and if fans make some noise on the social networks, perhaps Netflix will give the greenlight to another season.

Citadel (Prime Video, Status: On the Bubble): This spy fi entry did not show up in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the first two weeks of its second season, and we already know from the Luminate numbers that it got off to a slow start. Costs for the first season sky-rocketed out of control, and plans for international spin-offs have stalled with only two completed at this point (Citadel: Diana in Italy and Indian Citadel: Honey Bunny in India). At this point, the chances of the main show continuing to a third season look very iffy, and I have it firmly On the Bubble.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV, Status: Renewal Possible): There has been no word on a third season of this show yet, but Apple TV has been supportive of its originals, and it seems like it should get at least one more year to wrap up its storylines. According to the numbers from Luminate, it pulled in 1.6 million viewers over the first ten days of its second season, putting the show in the lower half of that streamer’s originals for the 2025-26 season. That is better than For All Mankind Season 5 and Foundation Season 3, though, and both of those shows did get renewals. Still, fans of Monarch might want to make some noise on the social networks to improve its chances of continuing for another year.
