The first two episodes will be available on Friday.

Spider Noir (Prime Video): Set in 1930s New York, “Spider-Noir” centers on an aging private investigator who is forced to reckon with his former life as the city’s only superhero. All episodes will be available for streaming on Wednesday.

Sci Fi TV News of Note:

A TV series based on Brandon Sanderson's Skyward is in the works.

Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward–the first book in his Cytoverse series–is getting a television adaptation from Tomorrow Studios.  Deadline gives the following description of the property:

Humanity is trapped on a harsh planet and constantly under attack by mysterious alien forces. The story follows Spensa Nightshade, a determined pilot who dreams of joining the fighter corps to defend humanity and redeem her disgraced father’s legacy. Blending high-stakes aerial combat, advanced technology, and themes of courage, identity, and discovery, the series explores both the secrets of the galaxy and Spensa’s growth from an outsider into a key figure in humanity’s fight for survival.

Sanderson will be writing the pilot himself along with Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). No network or streaming service is attached at this point, but this one will certainly draw some interest.

FX has given a series order for the genre comedy Very Young Frankenstein after viewing the pilot for the show.  That one is based on the classic 1974 Mel Brooks film Young Frankenstein, and the series comes from Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch who previously did What We Do in the Shadows for FX. Not much is known about the series at this point, but it will star Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, and Cary Elwes.

The Handmaid’s Tale sequel series The Testaments has been renewed for a second season by Hulu. A listing for the second season appeared in Production Weekly in April, and the creative team are currently targeting around three seasons total for the show.

In casting news, John Carroll Lynch and Mat Fraser will be returning to American Horror Story for its upcoming thirteenth season, and they will be joined by Mena Suvari and Berto Colón. Already set for that season are Ariana Grande, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, John Waters and Leslie Grossman.  Also, the character of Ginny Weasley will be recast in the upcoming second season of HBO’s Harry Potter series as the actress Gracie Cochrane will be leaving the show due to “unforeseen circumstances”. The first season of that show is set to premiere in December 2026.
