Sci Fi TV News of Note:

The Doctor Who revival will be getting a new streaming home in the States starting in June. That series was previously on Disney+ as part of their partnership with the BBC, but it is no longer there since they bowed out after the second season with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. Now, the show will be heading to AMC+ starting on June 11th with all of the seasons from the Ninth Doctor to the Thirteenth: Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker. The two Ncuti Gatwa seasons are not currently included, likely because Disney holds part of the rights for those. Classic Doctor Who–26 seasons that ran from 1963 to 1989–is currently available on BritBox, and Pluto TV has a free streaming channel that runs select episodes.

Coming out of this past week’s Upfronts, both Netflix and Amazon have announced new fantasy shows in the works. Netflix has given the greenlight to Barbaric based on the Vault Comics title from Mike Moreci and Nathan Gooden. Here is the logline for that one:

A ruthless and crass barbarian is cursed to only use his violence only for good, which sends him, his talking axe and a young witch on a road of self discovery, redemption and revenge.

Amazon is working on an adaption of the Empyrean fantasy books by Rebecca Yarros with Michael B. Jordan attached as executive producer. To be titled Fourth Wing, here is the description of the show:

It follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College. Violet joins hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

Both are in the early development stages and likely will not premiere until 2027 at the earliest.

In casting news, Aaron Paul will be joining Amazon’s Fallout for that show’s upcoming third and final season. There is no word at this point on what character he will be playing. Also, Hulu’s reboot/revival of The X-Files from Ryan Coogler (Sinners) is adding to it guest cast with Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, and more.

In scheduling news, the Upfronts brought quite a number of premiere announcements.  Season 3 of Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be arriving November 11th, New Disney+ series VisionQuest (which is a continuation from WandaVision and Agatha All Along) will have its premiere October 14th, Season 14 of Futurama will bow on Hulu August 8th, and Season 3 of The Ark premieres on Syfy July 29th.  In addition, the long-awaited second season of Ahsoka should be arriving in early 2027.

Sci Fi TV Trailers:

Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Lestat (AMC): The third season of Interview with the Vampire, which has been retitled The Vampire Lestat, shifts the focus away from Louis and places Lestat front and center as he finally tells his side of the story. Inspired primarily by Anne Rice’s second Vampire Chronicles novel, the new season follows Lestat de Lioncourt as he embraces life as a flamboyant rock star in the modern era. Premieres June 7th.
