Cancellation Watch: One Piece Tops the Netflix Charts for Its Season 2 Premiere, Revival Appears to Be Done at Syfy, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

One Piece (Netflix, Status: Renewed): This live-action anime adaptation topped the Netflix charts for its second season premiere, pulling in 136.2 million hours of viewing across 16.8 million households. That is down a little bit from the 18.5 million households that tuned in for the series premiere week, but still a strong return for the show. And the first season entered back into the Netflix Top 10 last week at that Number 7 slot with 27 million hours watched across 3.6 million households. This one has already been renewed for a third season, which started production in late 2025, so that could premiere as soon as Spring 2027.

Revival (Syfy, Status: Cancellation Likely): There has been no word on this show since it wrapped up its first season in August 2025, and the prognosis is looking grim at this point. The ratings were not great, but that is pretty much true of most originals on basic cable these days. The show did get some good buzz during its initial run, but if Syfy had wanted a second season of Revival, it sure seems like they would have ordered it by now. It seems more likely that they have quietly cancelled this one just like they did with SurrealEstate, as the network appears to be moving away from scripted originals. I am moving this one to Cancellation Likely which is a status I rarely use these days, but a second season looks like a longshot at this point. Fans should try to make some noise to support the show because it did have promise, and they may want to try to lobby other venues as it appears that Syfy has given up on the show.

The Beauty (FX, Status: On the Bubble): Ryan Murphy’s latest horror entry has not made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for its encore run on Hulu, and I have heard nothing about the linear viewership on FX (those numbers are hard to come by for basic cable channels these days). The show has not developed much buzz either, though it has been fairly well received by critics and viewers, currently holding a 72% Fresh Rating and 64% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. I am moving this one to Bubble status at this point, and fans may want to make some noise on the social networks to bring it more attention.

Primal (Adult Swim, Status: Renewal Possible): I have not seen the linear viewing numbers for this show’s third season airings on Adult Swim, but it has made it into the HBO Max Top 10 for its encore run on that streaming service. The current season also has a perfect score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100% Fresh Rating along with a 78% Audience Score. Its return for a third year came as somewhat of a surprise, but if Genndy Tartakovsky wants to continue this one into a fourth season, that is looking promising at the moment.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

Hulu’s Paradise received a Season 3 renewal yesterday as expected. In addition, I have factored in Invincible to the score because that show had an advance Season 5 renewal. For the 2025-26 season, we are currently at 23 renewed sci fi and fantasy entries (52% of shows tracked) vs. 10 cancelled and ending (23%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score for the current and prior seasons throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Show Count 44
Cancelled 2 4.5%
Ending 8 18.2% 22.7%
Renewed 23 52.3%
