Cancellation Watch: Fallout Improves for Season Finale, School Spirits Is a Ghost in the Rankings, and More

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

Fallout (Prime Video, Status: Renewed): This series improved to the Number 3 slot in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its Season 2 finale, pulling in just over one billion minutes of viewing. Despite early claims that viewership was down in its second year, the show has actually performed well, counting as the third most-watched sci fi entry on streaming this season with 7.3 billion minutes and an average of 913 minutes per week. It has already been renewed for a third season and will likely continue beyond that.

School Spirits (Paramount+, Status: Renewal Possible): This supernatural drama has not shown up in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings through the second week of its third season. The show has a secondary licensing deal with Netflix where seasons have an encore run on that service about eight months after they premiere on Paramount+, and it typically performs better there. I have not heard anything of a fourth season, but that arrangement may allow it to keep going.

Wonder Man (Disney+, Status: Mini-Series): This MCU entry dropped out of the Nielsen Streaming Rankings the week after its premiere. It has received good marks from critics and viewers so far, currently holding a 91% Fresh Rating and an 87% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. But it was designated as a mini-series and will likely remain one-and-done.

Gen V (Prime Video, Status: On the Bubble): Amazon has remained silent on a third season of this show, and since viewership was down in its second year, its fate is uncertain at this point. I am moving it to Bubble status, but it is possible that the show could continue if fans rally behind it. You can read more on that at this link.
