Sci Fi TV News of Note:

Is Nathan Fillion teasing a Firefly revival?

Nathan Fillion has been teasing something over the past week or so, and it sure looks like he is getting the Firefly band back together. He has put up videos on Instagram where he has visited Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, and Jewel Staite, and in each he tells them “it’s time”. In the post with Maher, the caption claims “Some of you have guessed convention, podcast, or cross-over. You are wrong.” In the one with Staite, he claims that an announcement will be made on March 15th. There is no information on what the announcement will be, but speculation is running rampant that a revival of Firefly is in the works. I have seen nothing in Production Weekly to confirm this, so for now, we will have to wait and see what the announcement is on the 15th.

Game of Thrones could be making the jump to the big screen, and Andor writer Beau Willimon will be penning a script. He has already submitted a draft for a film that would focus on Aegon I, who founded the Targaryen dynasty and conquered Westeros several centuries prior to the events of GoT. Whether this moves forward will hinge on what happens with the potential Warner Bros. Discover merger with Paramount, but the latter company’s CEO David Ellison is looking to release 30 films theatrically once the two studios have come together, and this movie brings plenty of name recognition. No director or actors have been attached at this point, and things will probably not get rolling until the final status of WBD is determined.

In production news, Season 2 of FX’s Alien: Earth is set to start filming in May which should have it on target for a 2027 premiere. And season 3 of Netflix’s Wednesday has moved into production which could have that one aiming for a 2027 premiere as well. Also, filming for the pilot of Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files will begin in May. If the streamer picks that one up to series, it will likely be looking at a 2027 arrival. Meanwhile, Vince Gilligan has said that writing on Season 2 of Pluribus “is not going quite as fast as I would hope” suggesting it may be a while before that show returns.
