Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.
Status Updates
Pluribus (Apple TV, Status: Renewed): After plenty of buzz has been zipping around about this show, it finally made it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for its sixth week of streaming. It landed at the Number 9 slot with an estimated 360 minutes of streaming which represents good numbers for an Apple TV original. The show had already topped the charts at Apple, and it was picked up for a second season in advance, so more from this one is on the way.
Love Death + Robots (Netflix, Status: On the Bubble): Netflix announced its 2026 lineup last week which did not include four genre entries from the 2024-25 season still awaiting word on their fates. Of those, Black Mirror has since been renewed for an eighth season, and I have moved Terminator: Zero to Cancelled status and Leviathan to Ended status. There has been no word on Love Death + Robots which last streamed new episodes in Spring of 2025. The viewership numbers were down from prior seasons at that time, and since Netflix remains silent on the series, I am moving it to Bubble status. I still believe that it has a chance of returning, but it is not on the slate for 2026 at this time. Fans should definitely make some noise on the social networks to nudge the streamer to a renewal decision if they do want to see this one return for a fifth year.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+, Status: Renewed): The Nielsen numbers came in for the premiere week of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, and the show landed at the Number 5 slot with an estimated 508 million minutes of viewing. That is a drop for the series–previously indicated by data from Luminate–as the first season premiere pulled in an estimated 572 million minutes, and that was for just two episodes. The numbers for the second season premiere week include the full first season which brings it to ten episodes available. That drop between seasons has become pretty standard lately, and may in part be driven by the long hiatuses streaming originals are seeing. In addition, Percy Jackson targets a younger audience, and some may have grown out of the show since the first season streamed. Still, the numbers are not disastrous, and the show has already been renewed for a third season, so it will stick around for a while.
The Peripheral (Prime Video, Status: Cancelled): This series was cancelled by Amazon back in 2023 (reversing their initial renewal decision), but it is showing a surge in popularity across the globe lately. It has entered the Top 10 in the Amazon streaming charts in countries like Belgium, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Finland as it seems to be gaining some new attention. The show was cancelled because it was expensive to produce, and it would have taken a while to ramp up production for the second season following the strikes. It seems unlikely that the recent attention will cause Amazon to change its decision on the cancellation, but if fans were to use this as a launching point for a Call to Action and maybe try to get it in the Top 10 in the U.S. along with making some noise on the social networks, maybe a second season could happen?
Record of Ragnarok (Netflix, Status: Renewal Possible): This animated fantasy series did not make it into the Nielsen Streaming rankings for the week of its Season 3 premiere, but it did chart in the Netflix Top 10 for three weeks. There has been no word on a fourth season, but if fans make some noise on the social networks, perhaps Netflix will give it the greenlight.
