Cancellation Watch: Percy Jackson and the Olympians Returns Down, Stranger Things Continues to Dominate Netflix Chart, and More

When does Percy Jackson Season 2 premiere?

Cancellation Watch: Weekly status updates and cancellation/renewal predictions for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services.

Status Updates

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+, Status: Renewed): The Nielsen numbers for the second season premiere have not come out on this show yet (they are on about a one-month delay), but Luminate Data has some stats available and they show a drop in viewership. According to that service, only 483 million U.S. minutes of the second season have been streamed after the first three weeks versus 1.3 billion in the same time frame for the first season. That is a significant drop for the show and for a franchise that could expand Disney+ beyond just Star Wars and MCU entries. The long gap between seasons could be part of the problem as this show has a younger audience, and some may have outgrown the property in the two years since the first season premiered. This one has already been renewed for a third season, though, and work has already begun on that. So it will stick around for at least one more season, but the show’s fate is uncertain after that.

Stranger Things (Netflix, Status: Final Season): This series had yet another strong showing for the week of its finale, holding on to the Number 1 slot in the Netflix Top 10 and improving to 325.6 million hours watched across 31.3 million accounts. It has released all of its Season 5 episodes now, but an animated series is on the way in 2026, and more spin-offs from this one are likely as well.

Talamasca: The Secret Order (AMC, Status: Renewal Possible): There has been no word on a second season of this show yet, but the signs seem to be pointing to a renewal. The linear ratings were on the low side, but that is standard for basic cable these days, and they are in line with other entries in the franchise. This show is likely making up the slack with digital viewing on AMC+, but the network has not shared those numbers. Fans should probably still make some noise to support the show on social networks in order to nudge AMC toward a renewal decision.
