Netflix Appears to Have Quietly Cancelled Terminator: Zero and Leviathan

Terminator: Zero and Leviathan have been quietly cancelled by Netflix

Netflix announced its slate of originals for 2026 yesterday, and based on missing entries, it appears that they have quietly cancelled two animated series from last season. That list does not include a second season of Terminator: Zero or Leviathan, so I am going to be working on the assumption that neither of those two will be returning seeing as there have also been no entries in Production Weekly indicating that they are moving forward.

Terminator: Zero is a continuation of the James Cameron franchise and seemed like it could kick off an ongoing animated series. It received good marks from critics and fans–currently holding an 87% Fresh Rating and 79% Audience Score at Rotten Tomatoes–though it did not make it into the Netflix Top 10 upon its release at the end of Summer 2024. Showrunner Mattson Tomlin definitely had plans for a second season, and there was an early indication that the show was picked up, but Netflix has yet to make an official announcement on its fate. And since it was left out of the list of 2026 releases, I am going to assume that this will be another one-and-done genre entry from the streamer.

Leviathan arrived with very little advanced push in Summer 2025, and it also failed to chart in the Netflix Top 10. It is based on the novels by Scott Westerfeld, and it did adapt all three books in the trilogy. I had heard rumors that they may carry on beyond that, but it is not showing up on the 2026 list either, so I have to assume that this one is done as well. Since both of these are animated shows, there is always the possibility that they could continue at some point. But they have apparently been pushed way down on the priority list, and I am moving Terminator: Zero to Cancelled and Leviathan to Ended at this point.  Fans may want to make some noise on the social networks if they want to see further seasons from either of these.

Both of these count back to the 2024-25 season, so that brings the score to 24 cancelled and ending sci fi and fantasy entries (36% of shows tracked) vs. 35 renewed (53%). You can see the breakdown of the numbers and the full list of shows for the current and prior seasons on our Cancellation Watch Page.

Terminator: Zero focuses on scientist Malcolm Lee who is developing an advanced AI called Kokoro, intended to rival Skynet. The day before Judgment Day, Lee and his three children are targeted by a Terminator assassin, and a soldier from 2022 is sent back in time to protect them and stop the AI’s launch. The voice cast includes André Holland, Sonoya Mizuno, Sumalee Montano, Armani Jackson, Rosario Dawson, and Timothy Olyphant.

Leviathan is a steampunk anime series set in an alternate World War I, where the conflict is fought using massive mechanical war machines and genetically engineered creatures. The story follows runaway prince Aleksandar and daring aviator Deryn Sharp as their paths cross aboard the living airship Leviathan, drawing them into a globe-spanning struggle that blends adventure, identity, and the cost of war. The voice cast includes Broghanne Jessamine, Dor Gvirtsman, Rob Nagle, and Michelle Lukes, and it is based on the trilogy by Scott Westerfield.

We are into 2026, and there are still several shows from the prior year awaiting word on their fates as well as quite a number from the 2025-26 season. Be sure to stay tuned to CancelledSciFi.com and our social media sites for updates and breaking news.
