Cancellation Watch: Percy Jackson and the Olympians Hits the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, La Brea Returns Down, and More

Cancellation Watch: Status updates for the sci fi and fantasy shows on the broadcast networks, cable channels, and streaming services as well as breaking news on the currently airing, returning, and upcoming genre entries.

Status Updates

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Disney+, Status: Renewal Possible): As mentioned in last week’s post, the early numbers for this show looked good, and now it has placed at Number 4 in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the week of its premiere with an estimated 572 million minutes of viewing. That was for a partial week and only two episodes, so this one is off to a good start. There is plenty more material to cover from the books and this show could stick around for several years if viewership remains strong.

La Brea (NBC, Status: Final Season): This prehistoric drama has averaged a 0.20 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic across its first two third-season episodes. That is down from its average last year but not too far off from NBC’s current average for dramas. The show is already set to end this season, though, and these numbers will not convince network execs to change that decision.

The Orville (Hulu, Status: On the Bubble): Seth McFarlane has provided yet another update on a possible fourth of this show, claiming that “we’re working on it” in a recent interview with Logically Speaking. That does not confirm that a fourth season will happen, though, only that he is putting some effort to move in that direction. Whether Disney will give the greenlight for another season of the show remains to be seen, and Adrian Palicki has already indicated that she has no plans to return for the show because of its sporadic schedule.
