Sci Fi TV Highlights: Severance Season 2 Gets an Update, The Mandalorian and Grogu Head to the Big Screen, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV News:

It has been almost two years since the corporate dystopia series Severance had its premiere on Apple TV+, and fans of the show are still awaiting word on when the second season will arrive.  Production began on that in October 2022, but the show was impacted by the writers’ and actors’ strikes from last year.  Apple TV+ has recently been teasing the show’s return and executive producer Ben Stiller just put out a tweet that should be encouraging.

No specifics are available beyond the one comment, but this suggests that the second season could be arriving at some point in 2024.

The Mandalorian TV series along with the baby Yoda character Grogu have been a big hit for Disney+ since first arriving in November 2019, and now they are headed to bigger adventures. On the big screen that is. The film The Mandalorian & Grogu has officially been greenlighted for production to start in 2024 with Jon Favreau as director and Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni producing. No details about the film have been revealed at this point, but more information should be available in the coming months.

In casting news, The Witcher has added fan-favorite actor Laurence Fishburne to the cast of the upcoming fourth season.  He will be playing Regis who is described as “a world-wise Barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey”.

In scheduling news, Syfy’s Resident Alien Season 3 has received a premiere date of February 14th. And NBC’s Quantum Leap will be moving to Tuesdays at 10 PM EST for the second half of its second season which will kick off January 30th.
