Sci Fi TV Highlights: Netflix Has a Wednesday Spin-Off in the Works, Twilight Zone Marathon Returns to Syfy, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV News:

Netflix’s supernatural dramedy Wednesday–which is a reboot of sorts of The Addams Family–has proven a huge hit for the streaming service and now they are looking to extend the franchise. A spin-off series is in the works which will focus on the Uncle Fester character (played by Fred Armisen) who previously appeared on Wednesday. No further details are available at this point, as this is early in the development stage, so stay tuned for updates.

In renewal and cancellation news, the sci fi series Beacon 23 will officially be continuing for a second season on MGM+.  The second season of that show had already been completed when the network picked it up after Spectrum and AMC had dropped the project, but they had not confirmed it would air until now.  Over at Starz, the low-rated supernatural dramedy Shining Vale has been cancelled after two seasons.  That one will be removed from streaming by the end of the year, but the show’s creator has started work on a third season and hopes it will be picked up by another venue.

Warner Bros. Discovery is currently in talks to merge with Paramount.  That will have major implications on several genre television franchises like Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Star Trek, Halo, and more.  The companies are in the early stages of discussion at this point, so stay tuned for updates.

The pilot episode for the new animated sci fi series Godspeed by Olan Rogers (Final Space) has been released online on YouTube.  He currently has a Kickstarter in place to fund additional episodes of the show.
