Sci Fi TV Highlights: Premieres for Scavengers Reign, Upload S3, Bodies; Patrick Stewart Wants a Final Picard Movie, and More

Sci Fi TV Highlights: A look at the upcoming schedule of sci fi and fantasy shows as well as recent news and/or trailers of note.

Sci Fi TV Premieres This Week:

Scavenger’s Reign (Max): In this surreal sci-fi animated series from creators Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner, the remaining crew of a damaged interstellar freighter ship find themselves stranded on a beautiful yet unforgiving alien planet – where they must survive long enough to escape or be rescued. But as the survivors struggle to locate their downed ship and missing crewmates, their new home reveals a hostile world allowed to thrive without human interference. Featuring lush, visually stunning animation, Scavengers Reign presents a wholly unique view of the consequences of unchecked hubris and humanity’s eternal desire to conquer the unknown. Premieres on Thursday.

Upload (Prime Video): In Season 3, the recently downloaded Nathan and Nora start an IRL relationship while taking down Freeyond. Meanwhile, a digital copy of Nathan is brought to life in Lakeview where he explores an alternate path with Ingrid. Aleesha is promoted to manager and has a new workplace love interest, and a lonely Luke looks for work in the Grey Zone. Season 3 Premieres on Friday.

Upload (Netflix): Four detectives, living in four different eras, find the body of the same murder victim in London’s Whitechapel. They soon come to realise their investigations have them central to a mysterious conspiracy spanning over a 150 years. Premieres on Thursday

Sci Fi TV News

In an interview with Wired, Patrick Stewart indicated he would like to revisit the character of Jean Luc Picard one last time in a movie. He claimed that

Star Trek: Picard, especially season three, left us in a very unresolved place. I had an idea about how to play the last scene that would have kind of resolved it, but it didn’t work out.

He went on to say

Let’s explore further the inside of this man’s head. His fears, his anger, his frustration, his questioning all of those things. There is a moment, I’m not quite sure where it comes in the series … Well, there are two moments. One is when Picard doesn’t know what to do. He’s stumped. And we never saw that in The Next Generation. There is also a moment when he is truly fearful. And those two pointers alone, I think, make him an interesting study for one more movie.

There is no indication that a movie is currently in the works, but Stewart may have enough influence to make it happen, especially if fans rally around the idea.

In other news, the Daredevil: Born Again series on Disney+ has gone through some behind-the-scenes shakeups with the current writers and directors being dismissed from the project and a new creative team being brought in. This will further delay the premiere of the series which was already pushed back to 2024 . . . Mark Goddard passed away this past week and he is best known to sci fi fans for his role as Major Don West in the camp-classic ’60s series Lost in Space . . . SPOILER AHEAD for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: Melissa McBride will be showing up in the season finale of that show and she will become cast regular in the second season.
