Netflix Top 10

Sweet Tooth debuted at Number 2 in the Netflix Top 10 for English Language shows the week of April 24th to 30th. That was its premiere week and it pulled in 48 million hours of viewing. The show received a third and final season renewal last week. Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the Netflix charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Nielsen Streaming Rankings

Netflix’s Shadow and Bone marked a fourth week in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings from April 3rd to 9th. It held at the Number 6 slot and pulled in an estimated 389 million minutes of viewing. That show also had a five-week run in the Netflix charts and could be on track for a third-season renewal (assuming the writers’ strike does not lead to unexpected cancellations). Disney+’s The Mandalorian held at Number 3 and improved to just over one billion minutes of viewing. The fourth season of that show is already in the works. Amazon’s The Power–which premiered the prior week–still did not make it into the Top 10 for originals. Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Nielsen Streaming Rankings for the Week of Apr-3 to Apr-9

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

On Monday of last week, FOX’s Fantasy Island improved to a 0.20 rating with 1.5 million total viewers. That is still one of the lowest-rated dramas on the network, but word is that it could still get a third season because it is considered a low-cost show and it could shift back to the Summer months. The writers’ strike might throw a wrench into that, though.

On Tuesday on The CW, Gotham Knights slipped to a 0.08 rating with 334K total viewers. The ratings for that one keep going up and down and it will need to stabilize to have any shot at a second-season renewal. Leading into that, Superman & Lois had a 0.12 rating with 655K total viewers and it appears to be on track for the third season renewal.

Over on ABC, supernatural comedy Not Dead Yet improved slightly to a 0.22 rating with 1.9 million total viewers for its double-episode season finale. Word is that network execs like the show, but it is their lowest-rated sitcom and the writers’ strike could work against it, so I am keeping it On the Bubble.

Cancellation/Renewal Score:

MGM+ (previously EPIX) has not issued an official renewal announcement for its sci fi/horror series From yet, but Season 3 has been added to the Production Weekly schedule and that is considered a pretty reliable source. The network will likely make an announcement around the time of the season finale, but I will go ahead and move it to the renewal column. That along with Netflix’s renewal of Sweet Tooth brings the score for the current season to 32 renewed sci fi and fantasy shows (39% of shows tracked) vs. 28 cancelled and ending (34%). Below are this season’s numbers, and you can see the list of shows and keep up with the score throughout the week at our Cancellation Watch Page.

Show Count 82
Cancelled 14 17.1%
Ending 14 17.1% 34.1%
Renewed 32 39.0%
On the Bubble 12 14.6%
Renewal Possible 10 12.2%
