Netflix Cancels The Imperfects After One Season

Once again the Netflix Red Queen has shouted her “Off With Their Heads!” verdict, and once again a genre show has fallen. The latest victim is the sci fi/horror entry The Imperfects which had its premiere two months ago. Just earlier today in this week’s Cancellation Watch post I was suggested that the show might be in trouble because it didn’t pull blockbuster numbers out of the gate. And sure enough, this afternoon the streamer announced the show’s cancellation. The Imperfects spent three weeks in the Netflix Top 10, rising as high as Number 3 in its first week and topping out at over 35 million hours viewed in its second week. It also spent two weeks in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for originals, rising as high as Number 6. But apparently it was not in the charts long enough to produce the “long tail” viewing that Netflix execs prefer to see. And since the streamer holds the rights to the properties for at least two years, it is unlikely that the show will make the jump to another venue.

The Imperfects follows three people who are turned into monsters with superpowers after undergoing experimental gene therapy. They decide to hunt down the scientist responsible to force him to turn them into humans again. It stars Italia Ricci, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Rhianna Jagpal, Iñaki Godoy, and Kyra Zagorsky and its one season consisted of ten episodes.

  1. We just finished watching the first season and enjoyed it quite a bit.. now this news.. Why even bother watching these shows when the provider yanks it without a conclusion?
