Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

Quantum Leap had its premiere on NBC last week and posted a 0.47 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 3.3 million total viewers.  It lost 30% of its lead-in from The Voice, but the numbers are not bad for a show in the 10 PM EST timeslot.  The curious onlooker effect may have driven people to tune in for the premiere, so we will have to see if they stick with the show in the coming weeks (more on this one below).

On Tuesday, The CW’s Stargirl slipped to a 0.06 rating with 387K which may not be enough for the new owners to keep the show going for a fourth season, and this one could be headed to Bubble status soon (more on that below).  Over on Syfy on Wednesday, Resident Alien slipped to a series low 0.05 rating with 579K total viewers.  But that one has already been renewed for a third season.

On Sunday, HBO’s House of the Dragon improved to a 0.45 rating with 1.9 million total viewers.  Considering the linear ratings and subsequent digital viewing on HBO Max, it is no surprise that the network has already renewed the show for a second season.

Status Updates:

Outer Range (Prime Video, Renewal Possible): It has been six months since Outer Range–a modern-day western with sci fi twists–premiered on Amazon’s Prime Video and there has still been no word on a second season. The show pulled decent viewership stats, especially considering that it did not get much promotion, and the showrunners definitely have plans for the story to continue.  It sure seems like Amazon would give this one the greenlight for a second year, but they need to do that soon before the contracts of the cast and crew expire.  Fans should probably make some noise on the social networks to convince the streamer to keep it going.

Shining Girls (Apple TV+, Renewal Possible): This is another genre entry from the streaming services that there has been no word on for nearly six months. The first season adapted the book, but it was never referred to as a mini-series and Elizabeth Moss has expressed an interest in returning for a second season.  Apple TV+ tends to renew its originals, so I will give this one a little bit more time before moving it to Bubble status.  But fans should probably make a Call to Action to support its return for a second year.

Quantum Leap (NBC, Renewal Possible): This show did not have breakout numbers for its premiere, but it ranked right about dead center for dramas for the Big Four networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC) for the week.  If it does not drop too much from its premiere and if it does well in delayed viewing and next-day streaming on Peacock, it could be on track for a second season.  But if NBC decides to stop programming the 10 PM EST hour, these numbers may not be good enough to convince the network to move it to an earlier hour on the schedule.  Fans should probably start rallying for this one now and make efforts to keep it trending when new episodes air each week.

Stargirl (CW, Renewal Possible): This was the top-rated show on The CW this past week, but I am thinking that a 0.06 score will not be good enough for the new owners.  They will also be less inclined to keep programming from the prior regime on the air, and Warner Bros. does not have much of a say in the network anymore (owning only a 12% share).  If only one of two Arrow-verse shows continues into next season, my money would be on Superman & Lois.  So fans should start showing their support for Stargirl, and perhaps it could shift over to HBO Max if the new owners do not want to keep it on the schedule.
