Cancellation Watch: Westworld and Motherland Fort Salem Return Down in the Ratings, First Kill Improves in Netflix Top 10

Westworld cancelled by HBO, here's a look at what happened

Linear Ratings Results of Interest:

On Sunday, Westworld returned for its fourth season on HBO and only posted a 0.06 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 325K total viewers.  That is down notably from its Season 3 average of a 0.23 rating, though I am guessing that much of the viewership for that has shifted to HBO Max.  I will keep an eye out for those stats, but the same-day numbers definitely suggest that the viewership has dropped for this show.

On Tuesday last week, Freeform’s Motherland Fort Salem returned with its third and final season and only managed a 0.04 rating in the demo with 87K total viewers. That is down from its second season average, but the linear viewing numbers do not matter too much at this point seeing as the show is wrapping up this year.

Over on The CW, Tom Swift slipped to a 0.04 rating with 366K total viewers despite a strong lead from Superman & Lois.  With the latter show wrapping up this week, expect the numbers to drop even further as Tom Swift‘s chances for a second season continue to fade.

On Wednesday, Wellington Paranormal returned for its third season and averaged a 0.02 rating with 175K total viewers across two episodes.  That New Zealand import ran for four seasons total in its home country.

Netflix Top 10:

Stranger Things Season 4 remained at the top of Netflix English-Language charts for the week of June 13th to 19th, but the viewership numbers tapered off some.  It totaled 109 million hours of viewing for the week (down from 159 million the prior week) and Seasons 1 through 3 slipped further down in the charts.  That show has been renewed for a fifth and final season.  Rising up was the vampire drama First Kill which improved to Number 3 with 49 million hours viewed.  That one could be on track for a second season renewal.  Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the Netflix charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):
