Severance Renewed for Second Season by Apple TV+

Coming as no surprise, the dark corporate drama Severance has received a second season renewal from Apple TV+. Even though the show has not placed in the Nielsen Streaming Rankings for original programming in its first season, that streamer has typically given its freshman originals a second season.  It is a high-profile series with Ben Stiller attached as executive producer and Adam Scott in the lead role and also executive producing.  Apple TV+ usually announces its renewals before the season begins, and it appears that this one already had the greenlight at that point because Production Weekly had indicated that production had begun on the second year.  Today’s announcement makes that official two days before the season finale drops on Friday.  Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss had following to say about the show:

Thanks to creator Dan Erickson, the brilliant Ben Stiller, and an incomparable cast and crew, Severance has imagined an existence that‘s equal parts riveting and enthralling as viewers around the globe can’t get enough of these rich characters. We’re excited to go deeper into this wholly unique world and unpack more layers of Lumon in season two.

The second season will likely premiere at some point in early 2023.

Severance follows the employees working at Lumon Industries who have undergone a procedure which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives.  But one person finds himself caught up in a mystery that has him questioning the nature of his work.  It stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, John Tuturro, and Patricia Arquette.
