Stranger Things Renewed for Fifth and Final Season and Gets Premiere Date for S4

Coming as no surprise, Netflix has given a fifth season renewal to its retro sci fi/horror series Stranger Things, though that will be its last.  In a letter to the fans, the Duffer Bros. indicated that they always imagined a four to five season run for the show, and Netflix has now confirmed that five will be the stopping point.  They do have plans for other projects in the same universe, but those will come after the main series has ended its run.

Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s most-watched original series, and the streamer appears to be extending it into an ongoing franchise similar to what it is doing with The Witcher.  That show is heading into its third season and has multiple side projects in the works.  Most Netflix originals wrap up around their third or fourth season, but Stranger Things is bucking that trend by getting a fifth year and possible spin-offs after that.

Also announced, the long-delayed fourth season finally has a premiere date.  That was held up due to COVID-realted production delays, but it will now be release in two “volumes” with the first premiering May 27th and the second on July 1st.  The episode count has not been revealed, but previously it was announced that this would be an expanded season.  Following is the letter that was put out by the Duffer Bros.
