Digital Ratings: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Enters Into the Top 10

The Nielsen Streaming Ratings disappeared for a week, but now they are back in an expanded format. Nielsen is now reporting three separate Top 10 lists: one for original series, one for acquired shows, and one for movies (combining both original and acquired). For the week of December 28th to January 3rd, Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina entered in the Top 10 for original series at the Number 3 slot. That show’s fourth season (or “part” as it is referred to) debuted that week and the streamer might want to reconsider its cancellation decision seeing as it brought in 961 minutes of viewership over that seven-day period. Disney+’s The Mandalorian remained in the Top 10 that week, though it slipped one slot from the prior week to Number 6. In the Top 10 list for acquired shows, Supernatural showed up for Netflix at Number 7. And among the movies, Netflix’s original sci fi film The Midnight Sky placed at Number 3. You can see the complete rankings at this link.

The Nielsen Streaming Ratings rank the shows/movies on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and Hulu based on the number of minutes watched during the week by U.S. viewers on television sets (mobile devices are not included at this point). The numbers are extrapolated based on the Nielsen sampling of families who have meters monitoring their viewing habits. Also note, shows with more episodes available will tend to have a higher number of minutes watched.
