Ratings Results of Interest

In the second edition of the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, Netflix’s superhero series The Umbrella Academy remained at the Number 1 position. That is for the week of August 10th thru 16th and it measures streaming viewing by minutes on Netflix and Amazon in the U.S. only. The superhero film Project Power debuted on Netflix that week and it landed at Number 4 on the list. Also entering the Top 10 for the week was Netflix’s encore run of The Legend of Kora. Supernatural slipped out of the Top 10 after appearing there in the Number 9 slot the prior week.

As for the linear networks, on Sunday HBO’s Lovecraft Country rebounded from its Labor Day Weekend slip and posted a 0.18 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 744K total viewers. That network’s originals tend to see notable gains from delayed and digital viewing as well as encore runs, so it appears to be doing okay so far in its first season.

On Wednesday, The CW’s The 100 returned from a couple of weeks off and improved to a 0.2 rating with 586K total viewers. That show is in the stretch run to its series finale at the end of the month. On Tuesday, Dead Pixels held at a 0.1 rating with 365K total viewers. It has already been renewed for a second season in Britain.

Cancellation Watch News Roundup

The big news this past week is that AMC announced that The Walking Dead will be ending with its eleventh season. The show’s tenth season has been expanded by six episodes and the eleventh season will consist of twenty-four which will air across two years. But the franchise will continue with a Carol and Darryl spin-off series as well as an anthology to be titled Tales of the Walking Dead. More on that at this link.

HBO Max has given a third season renewal as expected to its DC superhero series Doom Patrol after that show has proven popular through its first two seasons. The animated Harley Quinn is currently awaiting for a third season renewal as well, and that apparently depends on if a new budget can be worked out with HBO Max. It’s chances look good at this point, though, seeing as the streamer’s head of original content has noted that the show “has risen to the top as one of the most-watched Max originals on the platform” since moving there from DC Universe in August.

Status Updates of Interest

For the status updates on all of the currently airing shows plus those awaiting word on their fate, go to this link.

The Boys (Amazon, Streaming, Status – Renewed): This series proved to be quite a hit for Amazon in its first season, and it was announced at Comic-Con that the show has been renewed for a third season. Originals on the streaming services tend to wrap up by their fourth year, but perhaps this one will be able to buck that trend.

Raised by Wolves (HBO Max, Streaming, Status – Renewal Possible): This is a high-profile series with Ridley Scott’s name attached to it premiering on a new streaming service. I’m guessing that HBO Max execs will be motivated to keep this one around for at least a second season if not more.
