Cancellation Watch Breaking News: Netflix Renews Zombie-pocalypse series Black Summer for Second Season

Netflix has given a second season renewal to its zombie-pocalypse series Black Summer. That series debuted in April of last year, but there had been no word on its fate until the renewal announcement. The streamer tends to give most of its shows at least two seasons and this is an inhouse production which improved its chances of renewal. It did make it to Number 1 on the Top 10 Netflix shows in the UK last April, but apart from that there has been no info on viewership. The series comes from Z Nation creators Karl Schaefer and John Hyams and was originally billed as a prequel to the show that ran for five seasons on Syfy. But since then the creative team have distanced themselves from any links to the prior series.

Black Summer follows a mother searching for her daughter in the early days of a zombie outbreak and she teams up with another group of people desperately trying to find a way to survive in the mayhem. It stars Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Christine Lee, Sal Velez Jr., and Kelsey Flower.

There are still several more shows from the 2018-19 season that are awaiting word on their fate such as The Terror, Mars, and The Rook.
